Momence and BookYourMat both get pitched at small pilates and yoga studios, which is why owners end up comparing them. They overlap on the basics -- schedules, bookings, packages, memberships -- and then diverge in a way that is actually useful to understand before you pick.
This is an honest comparison. Momence is a real product with real strengths, and for some studios it is the right choice. We will say where. We will also say where BookYourMat fits better, and we will try to be specific enough that you can check our claims rather than take them.
What Momence is good at
Momence positions itself around boutique fitness and yoga studios, and it shows. The feature set leans toward studios that want to grow through marketing: tools for promoting classes, capturing leads, running campaigns, and selling on-demand or livestreamed content alongside in-person classes.
If your studio sells a mix of in-person classes and video content, or if you want your booking platform to double as a marketing suite, Momence covers ground that BookYourMat deliberately does not. A platform that tries to be your booking system and your marketing department gives you more surface area, and some studios genuinely want that.
Momence also offers customer-facing apps and hosted booking pages, and it has been around long enough to have mature answers for most scheduling shapes: recurring classes, workshops, courses, appointments.
Where the fit question comes in
The question is not which platform has more features. It is which platform matches how your studio actually operates day to day. Three differences matter most for small studios.
How clients book. Momence's model is app-and-portal booking: clients book through your hosted page or the app, and the system manages the class list. That works well when your clients are comfortable self-serving through a portal, which many are.
BookYourMat's model adds a second front door: your studio's text number. Becky, the AI receptionist, answers texts the way a front desk would -- a client can text "can I get into Saturday's 9 a.m.?" and get booked through the same capacity checks and calendar write as any other booking. For studios whose clients already text the owner for everything, this removes the owner from the loop without forcing clients into a portal habit they do not have.
How payments get reconciled. Both platforms handle card payments through integrated processing. The difference shows up in how small studios actually get paid: Venmo, PayPal, Zelle, cash, checks, the client's partner paying for them.
BookYourMat watches your Venmo and PayPal inboxes, matches incoming payments to the right client, and credits their package automatically. If your clients pay you peer-to-peer -- and a lot of pilates studios run this way whether they planned to or not -- that matching work is the difference between a system that tracks balances and a spreadsheet you maintain at night. If every client pays by card through checkout, this advantage does not apply to you, and it is fair to weigh that.
How much system you have to run. A marketing suite is valuable if someone works it. For a solo owner teaching twenty classes a week, a platform's campaign tools often sit unused while the owner still answers cancellation texts by hand. BookYourMat is narrower on purpose: booking, packages, reminders, and a text-first front desk, without a marketing suite to configure and feed.
Pricing and packaging
Both products change their pricing periodically, so check the current pages rather than trusting any comparison post, including this one. The structural difference worth knowing: BookYourMat is priced for the single-location, small-team studio and does not gate core front-desk features behind higher tiers. When you compare, compare the tier you would actually need -- the headline price on a pricing page is rarely the tier a working studio lands on.
When Momence is probably the better fit
Be honest with yourself on these:
- You sell on-demand or livestreamed content as a real revenue line, not a someday plan.
- You want marketing automation -- lead capture, campaigns, audience tools -- inside your booking platform and someone will actually run it.
- Your clients already book happily through an app or portal and rarely text you.
If two or three of those are true, Momence deserves a serious look.
When BookYourMat is probably the better fit
- Your clients text you to book, cancel, and ask questions, and you are the one answering.
- A meaningful share of your payments arrive as Venmo or PayPal transfers that you match by hand.
- You want a waitlist that works itself -- when a spot opens, Becky offers it to waiting clients one at a time by text instead of blasting everyone.
- You would rather have a front desk that runs itself than a marketing suite you might use.
If you are already on Momence
If you are weighing a move rather than choosing fresh, the switching cost is mostly data and communication, not technology. We wrote a separate guide on exactly that -- switching from Momence to BookYourMat -- covering what to export, how to carry over package balances, and how to run both systems in parallel for a week so nothing falls over mid-move.
And if you want to see the text-first front desk before deciding anything, book a 30-minute demo and text it like a client would. That interaction tells you more than any comparison table.
